3 Tips For Keeping Your Social Media Followers
Having interesting and personal content on social media is an important part of a business’ online presence. But without establishing a strong following first, your content is unable to influence your audience. Though gaining and losing followers feels like a never-ending rollercoaster ride, here are a few tips to help you hang on and keep your followers!
1. It's Not Them, It's You...
We hate to break it to you, but it's true. Your content has a lot to do with whether you followers will continue to follow you. Posts that will cause unfollowing include:
Posting too often/not enough
Reposting old content
Not being genuine
There’s no exact number of how often a business should post, but the type of post can affect how many followers are lost or kept. Try being personal with your audience! Not every post has to sell your business or its products. Adding personality and telling your brand’s story is great content to have on your content calendar (and if you don’t have a content calendar, find out why you need one here). Everyone loves a great throwback, but if your business has already posted the same content several times in the past then they will not continue to like (or even follow) you.
2. Stay Social
There’s a reason it’s called SOCIAL media! Consumers want to engage with your business that is why they like, comment, retweet, etc. your content. Facebook and Instagram has made it easier than ever to respond and connect with users with it’s like and reply features, so use the tools available and build a strong relationship with your audience!
We understand there can be some followers online who are bots or spam accounts. We do not expect you to interact with them (in fact, you should report them), but when a customer comments with a question about a product or service, don’t ignore them. Instead, use it as an opportunity to share your love for your business with others, and potentially have a new regular customer!
3. Stay Trendy
When we say be trendy, we mean in tune with your analytic data. It is a simple way to figure out what content attracts the most people. For example, if your business is a flower shop and you notice close up photos of flower petals receive more likes than bouquet photos then we would suggest you begin posting less of the latter. This does not mean you should completely disregard any other ways of posting your products or services, but it is an easy way to figure out what works and what doesn’t for your brand.
You aren’t going to permanently keep every person who follows you on social media, but with our tips, you can lose a lot less. For more assistance with your social media and communications strategy, please email The Burnette Agency at info@theburnetteagency.com or contact us here.
