5 Reasons to Date a PR Girl

Before pulling out chairs, opening car doors, and trying something you saw on The Bachelor, we’re here to give all the gentlemen willing to play by the rules a guide to dating a public relations (PR) girl. I am not suggesting the rules are more complicated when courting a woman who works in public relations, but we are a particular kind. Below, we outline why we aren’t all like Samantha Jones.

Words are our greatest weapon

It’s a well known saying in public relations that “a PR professional’s greatest weapon is her pen.” A large portion of our job is copywriting, so we spend much of our day writing, reading and editing copy. Whether it’s crafting a press release, a pitch, or just finding that perfect caption for our client, every message we send carries a meaning. In a relationship, this translates into being the girls that don’t challenge you to read between the lines or waste time. Most of the audiences we work with have short attention spans, so we will always try to make sure our message comes across loud and clear. Nonetheless, because we expect you to think deeply about the messages we send, we are also wired to overthink anything you say to us. #sorrynotsorry

We’re Natural Storytellers (aka romantics 😍 )

As I mentioned above, words are our weapon of choice, so crafting a captivating story is our signature move. To those who fear a girl with some imagination, get out now! A PR girl will inevitably create romanticism in your everyday life and probably fancy a future. It’s not that we’re naturally a bunch of drama queens, it’s that we find great enjoyment in a thrilling narrative with a compelling plot. That’s just the way we are, and if you can handle it, you are bound to be part of an exhilarating life story.

We’re Independent

There are some girls that are adored by their damsel-in-distress nature. Men adore these types of women because they are just helpless in such a way that makes men feel needed. However, a PR girl does not fit the mold. Your damsel-in-distress might need help to reach the top shelf, but the PR girl will find a ladder. In the day-to-day life of a PR girl, so many things can go wrong. And in our world, “I don’t know” is never an acceptable answer. When a client says jump, we say, “Sure, we will jump that high by this deadline.” Saying “that’s impossible” or “I don’t know the answer to that” is a good way to lose to business. Although it takes time to figure out the answer to everything thrown our way, PR girls always know how to resolve problems (even if the issue is completely unrelated to our scope of work). In return, a PR girl needs a man that can appreciate her independence, and not feel emasculated when she doesn’t need his help. Additionally, just because we don’t need your help, it does not mean that we don’t appreciate it. We may be able to handle any situation by ourselves perfectly fine, but we absolutely love it when a real man offers to take control once in awhile.

We Notice the Small Stuff

When you take a PR girl out to dinner, she’s going to notice that typo in the menu. She’s going to notice that your shoes are three shades too light to match your belt. We notice all these things not because we are finicky, but because it is our job to notice these things. Not all of us are natural perfectionists, but if we have been doing our jobs properly, we’ve probably been whipped to become slightly OCD about the most specific of things. And even if we appear to be texting all the time, we are still very aware of our surroundings. More importantly, we ARE listening to you! So don’t be alarmed when we still remember your drink preference from the first date - it’s not a sign that we are stalkers. We are just naturally attentive to small details. In return, we genuinely appreciate when a guy notices details about us too. Sure we love grand gestures, but even the smallest of actions will be acknowledged.

We’re Great Networkers

You think you are having a normal conversation with a group of friends, but a PR girl is always evaluating, planting ideas, and harvesting information about individuals. And it’s not insincere — we don’t see people as dollar signs. Naturally, a PR girl operates on a totally different wavelength. With the PR industry growing at a rapid pace, it’s no longer about what you know but who you know. We know everybody, and for good reason. Networking is an essential skill in our field, and when used wisely, it can potentially rub off on you.

So there you have it. This is the truth about dating a PR girl. In all honesty, all girls are complicated creatures – regardless of her profession. Every girl (and boy for that matter) has her (and his) personal idiosyncrasies, but we all universally admire the confident men (or women) that are not afraid to truly take the time to discover our peculiarities, and learn to love us for them.
