What’s To Come On Social Media

Twitter has a new feature ready for testing, Fleets. Twitter is one of the last social platforms to introduce its variation of a story feature. Fleets are a way to share fleeting thoughts. Unlike Tweets, Fleets disappear after 24 hours and don't get retweets, likes, or public replies. Twitter is jumping on board with their version of the story feature. Like the other platforms like Snapchat and Facebook, Twitter has set out for it to look the same way. 

Though the Twitter format looks very similar to Stories, Twitter’s Product Lead, Kayvon Beykpour, said in a Tweet, “I know what you're thinking: “THIS SOUNDS A LOT LIKE STORIES!”. Yes, there are many similarities with the Stories format that will feel familiar to people. There are also a few intentional differences to make the experience more focused on sharing and seeing people’s thoughts.”

The idea behind Fleets is that only your connections will be able to see your Fleets. Beykpour said that people are often scared to Tweet because they can be liked, reposted or replied to by anyone on the app. Fleets are designed to offer a more private sharing experience. The only way people can react to your Fleets is though a direct message. 

The navigation format differs from the other Story features we are used to. To view the multiple Fleets a user has posted, you swipe down instead of tapping on the right side of the screen. To switch to the next person’s Fleet, you swipe to the left. This format is built a lot like the way you currently use the Twitter app.
