LinkedIn Testing Their Version of a Story Feature

Due to the increasing popularity of disappearing content which originated on Snapchat, Stories have come to Facebook, Instagram and now jumping on board is LinkedIn. They have said to be testing their own Story feature. Currently, this testing has only been provided internally and LinkedIn has said that it will be available to users in the next coming months. 

Pete Daves, Head of Consumer Product said their interest in stories is that “They spread for a good reason: They offer a lightweight, fun way to share an update without it having to be perfect or attached to your profile forever.” 

So what exactly would this new feature look like in a professional setting? Davies had mentioned he envisions business-related conversations taking place on this Story feature. It is his hope that businesses and employees can find a familiar way to communicate on social media. Some of the topics Davies suggested for Story conversation were “lessons learned in a job, to helping with ideas for a new purchase to a community outpouring of love following a tragedy”.

It’s been noticed that LinkedIn has been feeling the pressure from other more mainstream social media platforms. In the past, they’ve adopted the Live video feature and added reactions on posts as you see on Facebook among many other interactive features. LinkedIn hopes to bring in more millennials and Gen Z users to their active users of mostly Baby Boomer and Gen X.
